Western Helicopter Services, Inc. is owned and operated in Newberg, OR. Since our company opened its doors in 1966, we have grown from a one helicopter operation to our current fleet. We operate 7 turbine Bell and Hiller Soloys, employ 7 full-time pilots and a total of 21 full time employees. We have about 45 pieces of rolling stock used to support our operations.
WHSI specializes in Forestry Application and is licensed to conduct forestry applications in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Utah, and California. In 2010 we completed forestry applications in over 145,000 acres and flew roughly 3000 hours.
In addition to our forestry work we do other specialty application work for Vector Control Districts in Multnomah, Columbia, Clark, Lewis, and Deschutes Counties. We also have worked with the Oregon State University Seed Certification Program to fly aerial surveys for their grass seed certification program since 1992.
Our pilots are some of the most experienced in the forestry application business. They have over 100,000 hours of pilot in command helicopter time. Four of our pilots have over 30 years of experiences, five have over 14,000 hours and our lowest time pilot has in excess of 5,000 hours.
Two WHSI employees developed and patented the helicopter drip torch for controlled burning which is now used world wide. Manufacturing and patent rights were sold to Simplex Manufacturing who now markets the drop torch. WHSI is also the sole worldwide distributor of EZFire burning powder (formerly known as Naplam, Alumagel, SureFire, FireTrol).
WHSI has been certified and issued Operating Certificates from the FAA for the following: Part 13 Air Carrier - Part 137 Commercial Agricultural Operations - Part 133 External Load Rotorcraft.
Western Helicopter Services is committed to provide our customers the highest quality of service and to perform in a SAFE and effective manner. We can provide turn-key application services that include purchase, transportation, storage, and recycling of containers for chemicals or fertilizers or just application services based on customer requirements. All aircraft are equipped with DGPS guidance systems that are capable of using GIS information to create shape files and record information for customer use and record keeping. All aircraft are equipped with nozzle and boom configurations that incorporate the best technologies available to provide excellent coverage, reduce drift potential, and comply with the Forest Practices rules for various sates.
The founders of the company retired in 2002. The current management has been involved in day-to-day operations of the company since 1996.
